Liubai
留白
Leave noon a little empty.

Two Taiwanese bowls, made slowly in London. At the stall, or brought to your table at work.

The menu

Only two bowls.

Lu Rou Fan

Pork slowly braised, over rice. Like Sunday at home, without the hurry.

Contains pork. Not for halal or pork-free diets.

Curry Chicken Rice

Chicken curry rice. The other bowl — gentler, and without pork.

Chicken, rice, curry. No pork.

Why two

We make the same two things well.

Not because we ran out of ideas. Because a bowl done properly, every day, is the whole craft.

How it arrives

It comes hot. You only need to eat.

  • Prepared the morning of delivery
  • Carried hot in insulated boxes
  • Ready to open and serve
  • Cutlery included

Our Story

留白

In Chinese art, liubai means the deliberate leaving of empty space —
not absence, but intention.

We live in a city that moves without pause. Lunch is eaten at desks, between meetings, on the way to somewhere else. The meal disappears before it is tasted.

Liubai was built around a simple belief: a good meal should offer more than nutrition. It should offer a moment — a quiet interruption in the middle of a busy day.

We keep the menu small on purpose. Not because we lack ideas, but because restraint is its own kind of care.

The Name

留白 — Liubai — carries two meanings for us.

The first: the philosophical idea of empty space as meaning. The pause that gives everything else its shape.

The second: it holds our names — Liu and Ai — together making Liubai. A small thing, but a true one.

The Founders

Louis Liu

Hong Kong

Shaped by Hong Kong's food culture, where the kitchen is taken seriously and repetition is a form of devotion. He believes that making the same thing well, every time, is not a limitation — it is the whole point.

Ai Chiang

Taiwan

Grew up in Taiwan with slow-braised pork on the table most Sunday evenings — her mother never rushed it. She still thinks the best meals are the ones that ask nothing of you. Just sit. Just eat.
